Was so happy with the under quilt. Kept me warm at -17c and never got cold. Only thing I would recommend is that you try it at home first as I did it when it was cold out camping and cursed myself. Was windy and didn't get any cold spots. Prefer this more over the pad. Also used just the under quilt as a top quilt winter tent camping and worked great as that also.
I love underquilts for hammock camping. Under the hammock is the main spot for heat loss and one having a horrible night of sleep. This underquilt was made with quality materials and packs up nice and small for transport. With the design of the hammock itself, once you sit in the hammock, it forms right into the underquilt. It kept me amazingly warm and comfortable. The only issue I had were the carabiners. I had one break on me first use. I updated them to Nite Ize S-biners. Here is a video on my channel of my first hammock camp using the underquilt below.
I bought this on the day of release and was very excited to try it. I’ve only used it once so far on a winter trip where temperatures dropped to about -8°C.
Even though that was within the comfort rating, I still felt a bit cold, especially around my hips. This surprised me since I was also using a sleeping pad and a -20°C sleeping bag.
A clear setup video would help make sure it’s being used correctly. Overall, it seems like a great addition to my kit, and I’m looking forward to using it more and dialing in my sleep setup.
We have a few of these underquilts and just recently came from a winter camp experience. We set one of these quilts with the Hawk Nest v3 and one with another Canadian brand hammock. These quilts are well made. They kept us warm in -9 and -14 (over two nights).
